Artist Statement

My world is defined by color and chunks of abstract shapes placed together to make a whole. That world is a version of the mental state I am experiencing at the time or it is an interpretation of remembered or reinterpreted memories. In essence, my paintings capture my thoughts, my memories or the emotions that hang around inside me demanding to have an external space of their own and for me that exists within a visual world.

The subjects of my art emerge from what I perceive as regular vacations in the depths of my brain, sometimes by choice and sometimes by force of emotional crisis. These mental vacations can be the favourite place to be as I paint and at other times it can be a scary place. Either one, no one wants to be there alone and painting these mental states is my way of sharing my world with the viewer.

The clean color and paint application enable me to eliminate all the mental noise and to put my thoughts or emotions clearly in focus.  Painting that place helps me connect with others who have traversed through the dark and scary depths I am approaching.  Other times I want to show people the best parts of my world.

Where do you go when you zone out? Do you zone out? Do you have your own world?
